MUC University Campus
MUC is a major educational development located in southern Iraq. Envisioned as a modern and comprehensive students centric higher education institution, the campus is planned to serve approximately 38,000 students and 10,000 staff on a site of 3.9 million m2, with a total built-up area of approximately 1 million m2. The campus will include 17 academic faculties, student and staff housing, administrative buildings, a university hospital, central library, planetarium, mosque, research centers, sports facilities, cultural venues, and support infrastructure.
The development aims to become a beacon of academic excellence and innovation in Iraq, with a strong focus on sustainability, community integration, and national identity. The university will play a pivotal role in advancing the educational, social, and economic development of the region and beyond.
The design team has proposed multiple spatial strategies to optimize microclimatic conditions, daylighting, and ventilation with the inclusion of shaded courtyards, pedestrian axes, and green buffers as integral components.
